MAURICIO GOMES

Mauricio Gomes

West London Jiu Jitsu is affiliated with Mauricio Gomes  (father of Roger Gracie) who holds one of the highest titles in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu; 8th Degree Coral Belt.

Mauricio acts as a mentor to Head Instructor, Ash Hoque, and will eventually visit the club to teach classes, seminars and take gradings.

Founder

Ash Hoque

Ash is a lifelong martial artist, starting at a young age with judo, and then Wado-Ryu karate in his teens. He trained in this for many years, achieving a 2nd Dan black belt and is still training with his club Fudochi in Windsor. 

Brazilian jiu-jitsu became a new focus in 2008 when he discovered the Roger Gracie Academy in London. Ash was awarded his black belt at the Roger Gracie Academy in July 2021 by Roger Gracie and Mauricio. 

Ash now runs Mauricio Gomes Jiu-Jitsu Legacy West London and teaches the classes there. He is looking forward to giving back his knowledge to the community

Phanie Masetto

Originally from Mexico, Stephanie is a Movement Coach with 10+ years of experience in Jiu Jitsu and yoga. Her coaching approach combines strength, resilience, mobility, and mind-body awareness to create charismatic and challenging experiences that empower individuals to move with confidence, purpose, and intention.

As an IBJJF-registered Brown Belt by Anfibio Jiu jitsu Club, México City. Stephanie leads Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes for women and children in both gi and no-gi formats. She is passionate about helping women build confidence, trust in their abilities, and develop practical self-defense skills, while fostering a supportive environment where students of all levels can grow, learn, and thrive.
